My great grandmother

Helen 'Nelly' McCallum Crichton born 21 August 1885 in Stanley House, John Street, Dunoon to William Shiress Crichton and Christina McCallum.

She lived in 83 North Woodside Rd, Glasgow St George in 1891. Aged 5, Scholar, of Dunoon. Living in the household of father William S Crichton aged 40, Printer Compositor, of Dundee, with mother Christina C Crichton aged 35, of Row, Dunbartonshire, sister Annie G Crichton aged 11, Scholar, of Glasgow, sister Jessie W Crichton aged 9, Scholar, of Glasgow, brother William S Crichton aged 7, Scholar, of Glasgow, and sister Christina Crichton aged 3, of Glasgow.

She lived in 9, Dean Street, Glasgow, Blackfriars in 1901. Aged 15, single Waitress, of Dunoon. Living in the household of father William Crichton aged 51, Printer, of Dundee, with mother Christina Crichton aged 45, of Row, Dunbartonshire, brother William Crichton aged 18, single Glazier, of Glasgow, and sister Christina Crichton aged 13, Scholar, of Glasgow.

Nelly married general labourer Archibald McLean. They were married in a religious ceremony, After publication according to the forms of the Congregational Church, on 31 August 1906 in Moncur Street Congregational Church, Glasgow, witnessed by William S Crichton; Christina Crichton.

Archibald died on 17 June 1910 8h 10m pm in Eastern District Hospital, Glasgow. Res: 54 Barrack Street. Cause of death: Acute lobar pneumonia.

Her daughter, Helen Crichton or McLean, was born (illegitimate) 8 June 1915 5h 30m am in 16 Sydney Street, Glasgow.

Nelly later married general labourer Thomas McVey. They were married in a religious ceremony, after publication according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church, on 2 April 1923 in St Mary's Chapel, Calton, Glasgow, witnessed by Jessie Kessack, 89 Abercromby St, Glasgow; Catherine Curran, 89 Abercromby St, Glasgow.

Thomas died aged 63 on 17 November 1949 7h 50m am in 450 Gallowgate, Glasgow. Cause of death: Carcinoma of Lung Syncope. Informant: Ellen McVey, widow, present.

She died aged 73 on 26 June 1959 about 2h 43m pm in River Clyde, Glasgow (near to the suspension bridge) or between there and Royal Infirmary, (res: 450 Gallowgate). Cause of death: Asphyxia by Drowning. Informant: Thomas McVey, son, 8 Coronation Road, New Stevenston.
